A great birthday week. . . PICS are here!

Well I can't say it was a dull week :)

With the ed. conference here, there was something going on every night this week. Sunday night I hung out with Rick and Tiff at the Currier's. . . it was great sitting and chatting and enjoying each others company. It reminded me how much I really miss them :( Monday through Wednesday was the ed. conference itself- I participated in a session lead by Rick on how to truly engage students in their learning. Though it was a slap in the face how far I have to go as a teacher, it was refreshing to have something to challenge me and rethink the way I do things (even if I can only change one little thing at a time). Tuesday night Deb had a Stampin' Up party that turned out great. And unfortunately, I spent Wednesday sick, and Thursday I was still recuperating, but was doing well enough to carry on a conversation, which is more than I can say about Wednesday night, at the pre-birthday party and going away party for Tiff and the boys.

Thursday night, everyone from out of town left, and it was nice to have a quiet birthday dinner at the Currier's.

Deb and the kids decorated, and Jason made a yummy, comfort food, dinner with rice and creamy chicken. We finished the evening by watching Over the Hedge and going to bed early :) It was a lovely end to the day! Thanks you guys!

Friday brought a work day, snowy weather, and the annual Halloween Carnival in the evening. I had asked Deb to bring something back from ANC for me- something colorful and fun. . . she choose the perfect outfit :)
I don't know what I am, but a chance to wear a flaming pink hat, a neon-green boa, and sparkly eyelashes can't be passed up! :) thanks Deb!

Saturday I spent getting sub plans put together for the week. I will be leaving Sunday afternoon with our seniors to visit career and school opportunities they have after they graduate. I'm looking forward to the trip, but am feeling the stress of being out of the classroom so much.

Well, November is here. . . crazy as that is. . . I hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween, whatever you decide to do. :)

A full fantastic weekend. . .

Wow. Another busy and great weekend! Saturday consisted of the normal laundry and minor cleaning, along with massive amounts of reading for the class I’m taking right now. In the afternoon, I got to learn how to knit a hat (thank you Nancy!) and drove to the end of the Unalakleet road with Bill and Erin to view the beautiful surroundings. The fall colors are fading, but the scenery is still breath taking.

Toward the end of the road, we were reminded of the fact that there used to be an army base in the area. There are some haphazard, scary reminders strewn about on the tundra. Makes you think twice- thinking that you live in a clean, pollution-free, isolated area. . . but there is no escaping it, even out here.

As the winds pick up and the temperatures drop, it makes me realize that I’m ready for the snow to come. I hope it comes earlier than last year- I wasn’t able to put on a pair of skis until January!!

Sunday, I had brunch at my place with Bill and Erin, Stacie, James and Abbie, and Deb with Cate and Ben completing the group. The husbands (well most of them) were out of town, and it was a great time to get together and visit (not that we don’t like to visit when the husbands are here, but it gave us an opportunity to talk about them :) heehee).

James was introduced to my cat, Rijah, during breakfast and decided to put his best face forward to capture the moment :) isn’t he a doll?!?!

Everyone brought great goodies, and I must admit that I was very proud of my sticky-buns . . . probably the best I’ve ever made!! Soft and sweet, and don’t forget sticky!! Um, um good!! The rest of the day was spent at school planning and grading- it was productive and a good use of time- so that makes it feel like it was worth it!

I hope you all had a great weekend as well. We’ve got one more week in the quarter (where has the time gone!??!) and then next week is spent at inservice meetings here in Unalakleet. I’m looking forward to some good sessions, and visiting with friends coming to town. Especially the Holt’s!! It will be a great week of visiting, and oh yeah, learning :)
